Celebrating Our First SPARKS FLY Retreat in Beautiful Lunenburg, Nova Scotia
It was a very long time ago when the idea of developing SPARKS FLY retreats first materialized. Five years, to be precise. COVID-19 put a damper on them coming to fruition, and it began to feel like an uphill battle; that the retreats might never happen. So, it was wonderful to finally hold the first Sparks Fly Retreat, at long last!
Allegra Huston’s Imaginative Storm Memoir Writing Workshop began on May 22 2023, in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. Ending on May 27, this five-day workshop was really worth the wait!
Eight memoirists gathered from as far away as California, and as close as Riverport, NS. From day one to day five, they shared their stories, supported one another, and benefited from the in-class teachings and writing prompts. Each writer had two valuable one-on-one sessions with Allegra to help steer them on their paths. On the final night we enjoyed a farewell dinner together, which felt like a gathering of old friends.
Not only did Allegra’s workshop exceed our expectations, her supportive teaching style was a big hit among the students. Those who feared they were not writers found this inspiring workshop gave them the courage and freedom to express themselves in a meaningful way, calling the workshop brilliant and their experience life-affirming. Allegra Huston is returning to Lunenburg in October 2024
It was a sad day when the memoirists parted ways, having grown together during the five days of the workshop. But, even before Allegra Huston went on her way, it was decided she would come back to Lunenburg. She will run another Imaginative Storm Memoir Writing workshop at the Bluenose Lodge in October of 2024, and SPARKS FLY retreats are thrilled about her return!
